One Woman

Miep Gies, who died a few months ago just shy of her 101st birthday, was a great woman. At tremendous risk she hid Otto Frank and his family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. She also found Anne Frank’s diary lying on the floor after the Gestapo had ransacked the place. Anne Frank died at Bergen-Belsen, but her father lived on. Because of Gies we have the Diary of Anne Frank, a handful of survivors, and a great exemplar of humanity.
